About Moxibustion & Cupping

Cupping therapy helps to increase blood flow to the muscles, promoting relaxation and alleviating pain associated with conditions like muscle strains, tension headaches, and fibromyalgia.

Cupping therapy stands as a versatile treatment option for a wide range of ailments, including flu, colds, headaches, muscle tension, skin conditions, and symptoms associated with excess heat in the body. Utilizing glass cups that are warmed and placed onto the skin to create suction, this therapy serves to mobilize blood flow and aid in the elimination of toxins from the body. I employ both fixed and gliding cupping techniques, with the latter involving the application of massage oil to facilitate the smooth movement of the cups across the skin. The suction draws the skin and superficial muscle layer lightly into the cup, creating a sensation akin to the inverse of massage—gentle pressure pulling muscles upward. Many patients find this sensation particularly relaxing and relieving.

Moxibustion holds a special place among my preferred techniques in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for addressing issues stemming from the accumulation of Cold within the body. This method involves the controlled burning of the herb Artemisia vulgaris in close proximity to the skin. The resulting warmth is believed to bolster Yang energy and promote healing by invigorating the flow of blood and energy along the body’s meridians. Moxibustion is particularly renowned for its effectiveness in encouraging the repositioning of breech babies during pregnancy.

I offer Moxibustion & Cupping therapy at my clinic in Old Trafford, Manchester, M16 7QU. I am located within easy travel distance of Manchester City Centre, The M60 and the M602.
