Moxibustion is one of my favourite TCM techniques through which to treat patients with issues due to accumulation of Cold. It involves burning of the herb Artemisia vulgaris near the skin. The warming effect is believed to strengthen the Yang energy and facilitate healing by stimulating blood and energy flow through the meridians. Moxibustion is commonly used for turning babies in breech position. You can find more information here.
Cupping is a great therapy for treating flu, colds, headaches, muscle tension, skin conditions and general heat symptoms. Glass cups are warmed and placed on the skin to create suction, they mobilise blood flow and help to remove toxins from the body. I use both fixed and moving cupping, applying massage oil for the latter to allow the cups to slide.
